You’ve probably seen our catch phrase: Keeping Your Body In Balance
But what does balance mean when it comes to your body? Especially at this hectic time of year, with the holiday just over and the new year just beginning, understanding this question is especially important.

So, what does it mean to keep your body in balance and why is that so important? Our bodies are constantly in the process of attempting to return to a state of balance called Homeostasis. The website 1Balance.Com has a great article called Why Is Balance Important? They used the following analogy to explain this concept:

Imagine, on a perfectly sunny, breezy day, you are trekking down a hilly path with a friend and without a care in the world. Suddenly, you stumble on a piece of rock. You are about to fall. Your heart skips a beat. That fall could spell a disaster for you. But moments before you hit the ground, your friend pulls you back to your feet. You regain your balance, heave a sigh of relief, thank your friend profusely, and continue on your path.
That’s balance for you – a state of equilibrium, an ideal state of being where you are walking steadily despite a changing terrain.

This, however, is only a rather literal example of balance that is visible to the naked eye. In truth, though you can’t see it, your health faces many stumbling blocks in the form of changes in your external and internal environment. It is constantly losing and regaining its balance.
Chiropractic care can be your friend on the trail of life. Chiropractic works with your body to restore its proper function when it is thrown off by injury, disease, or environment. By focusing on the relationship between the body’s main structures – the skeleton, the muscles and the nerves – chiropractic care can impact every aspect of your health. No, it is not a cure-all. However, by restoring or improving the primary systems of the body, regular chiropractic care can enable your body to heal more quickly, improve your immune and nervous system function, and to operate at its best despite your environment.

Once of my absolute favorite professors in undergrad, Dr Craig Thulin, talked about the chemical processes in our bodies this way:
Life is coordinated networks of chemical reactions avoiding equilibrium.
Equilibrium for a chemical reaction means that the reaction has stopped. It can’t move forward anymore, which is not good for life. I mention this simply to illustrate that even the chemical processes that keep us alive are constantly taking us in and out of balance. With so many factors attempting to trip us up on this path of life, it is important to have someone at your side to Keep You In Balance!
