Breathing is an essential function for life; if you stop breathing for long enough, you stop living. Yet, not only is breathing important, but your method or manner of breathing is crucial too. In many country’s health practices, breath training is an integral element; such as in Ayurveda, Yoga, Tai Chi, Qigong, and most martial arts. In my church, we are encouraged to fast (or refrain from eating and drinking) for a 24 hour period once a month. Generally, we hold this fast on the first Sunday of the month and each person can chose to participate or not. We do this for spiritual reasons, but the research in recent years have confirmed that there are definite health benefits from periodic fasting.
There are many ways to fast and lots of variety in the actual thing that is abstained from. Over the years, chiropractors have worked hard to educate the medical community and the public about what we do and the health benefits of chiropractic care. Today, my big sister shared a link on FB about the importance of knowing the warning signs of someone who is having a stroke. According to the post:
