I am not anti-drug or anti-vaccine, I believe that they can be beneficial when used appropriately. However, we have gotten to the point as a society, where we not only accept, but expect our medical professionals to give us drugs for just about every issue. Often, we don’t ask or even consider whether or not we really need them or if there is an alternative form of treatment. Chiropractic care can be a great alternative or at least first option for a number of issues.
Our country is in the middle of a crisis when it come to the use and abuse of opioid drugs (I’ve mentioned the Opioid Epidemic in a previous post). And today I hear that the president’s pick for the new “drug czar” (strange that this is even a thing” has dropped out of the running due to reports that he sponsored a bill that has hindered the DEA in fighting the opioid crisis. Research shows that chiropractic adjustments are as effective as opioids for back pain (one of the most common reasons for their prescription).
In that light, I’m never very surprised when I read about research like the below article implicating certain common medications in the later development of dementia. Have a look if you’re interested, of course a link or relationship does not mean a cause and there is always more research that needs to be done.
