This was an interesting one for me. Not only is this useful information about how to improve your sleep and quality of life, but I learned something of basic science that I had not been taught or at least caught before. I consider myself a fairly knowledgeable/ well educated person, so to not have understood something like this, took me by surprise. It turns out that plants perform respiration, as well as photosynthesis. Now most of you are probably going, “Well, duh!”, but until today I only understood the photosynthesis part. Animals take in oxygen and release carbon dioxide; plants take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen. I learned, however, that plants also take in oxygen and release carbon dioxide all throughout the day, only it is in tiny amount compared to animals. Also, at night, when there is no sunlight, plant are not able to do photosynthesis, so they are only doing respiration. Fortunately, they don’t consume enough oxygen for it to cause any problems, even in your house.
