In my church, we are encouraged to fast (or refrain from eating and drinking) for a 24 hour period once a month. Generally, we hold this fast on the first Sunday of the month and each person can chose to participate or not. We do this for spiritual reasons, but the research in recent years have confirmed that there are definite health benefits from periodic fasting.
There are many ways to fast and lots of variety in the actual thing that is abstained from. Over the years, chiropractors have worked hard to educate the medical community and the public about what we do and the health benefits of chiropractic care. Yesterday I had the opportunity to give a short presentation to some of the youth from our church. These young men meet together one evening a week to learn, serve, and have fun together. The topic of the meeting last night was running. While I am not a “runner”, I do enjoy running and have long appreciated to health benefits of running.
